 Karl chaired the meeting.

 1.                   Mexico, convention

Karl Bach was the only survivor representative present at the meetings about the Mexican draft. Documents produced have been mailed to the board. Good personal contacts made to UN representative Gerard Quinn and the EDF (European Disability Forum) director. Tina Minkowitz has made a great job in making the documents from WNUSP. As far as article 12 goes, WNUSP wants it to be deleted. There will be an Ad Hoc committee meeting in August, the committee consisting of national delegations and IDA representatives. SCI has an observatory seat. Judi will contact Akito Uno, UN to get further information about the committee.

Judi contacts Tina Minkowitz and SCI representative Celie Brown for forming a small working group to make a strategy on this subject and join the IDA meeting in July.

Karl will e-mail the Mexican Government to the effect of deleting article 12.

Karl suggests that the forcing of psychiatry on children should become a major WNUSP issue.

 2.                   WHO document

Karl will make comments on the positive items of the  document including Tina Minkowitz’s critic.

Karl informed that the White Paper in Europe has now been made a draft recommendation, which could mean legalizing forced treatment everywhere. Karl makes follow up within the ENUSP.

 3.                   WNUSP future

A voluntary international group within LAP – the Danish Survivor organisation – is hoped to take on some of the administrative burden of the secretariat.

It is a wish to get our web site and brochure translated to other world languages.

Passive board members will be contacted to find out their interest in staying on the board. Statutes makes suspension possible, if board members do not participate in the work.

The board will consider possible new board members from Africa, Asia and South America.

It was decided to make a newsletter to members. Board members are asked to write something by the end of August. Members are asked to make a few lines on the conditions in their respective countries.

 4.                   Funding

Karl will contact the Danish foreign ministry within a couple of months.

Gisela has found out that the costs of telephone conferences are low in Canada.

At the next meeting the WFMH involvement will be discussed, as well as the possibility of holding a general assembly.

 Next meeting:                    August 20th
