TELEPHONE CONFERENCE OF THE BOARD

 Iris chaired the meeting.

 1.                   Membership situation

 16 individual and 7 full members have paid their fees.  No members in Australia and Japan. Would local board members check the situation?

 Karl suggested a more active and responsible board (involving more people) to increase membership of WNUSP. Increase the use of the members mailing list.

 2.                   Board members from Africa/Middle East

 The board will follow up on this point. Gisela will check some contacts in Africa.

 3.                   Funding

 Karl will contact the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for any funding possibilities.

 4.                   IDA

 Judi is expected to give a report of the New York meeting.

 Dublin: No representative from WNUSP. On direct approach Karl succeeded to get funding from the Irish Government, but due to illness he was not able to attend. Karl will seek information about the results of the meeting.

 5.                   WHO materials

 WNUSP will join the SCI statement – Karl makes the letter.

 6.                   Working group

 It was decided to invite Tina Minkowitz and SCI activists to the working group. From WNUSP Gisela, Karl and Judi. Invitations on the members mailing list as well.

 7.                   Registration of WNUSP

 WNUSP must have been formally established for two years before UN registration is possible. Papers of registration have been asked for, but not yet received.

 Draft official letter will be completed by Karl and Eva. The board is asked to mail the secretariat of organizations to be contacted.

 8.                   Costs of telephone conference

 The board members are asked to examine in each of their countries the costs of telephone conferences. It seems to be rather expensive in Denmark (approx US$ 600 per hour). The costs will be divided among board members’ organizations from now on (please give necessary information to the secretariat as to invoicing address).

 9.                   Action Plan

 Iris, Gisela and Judi will be present at the same conference in April in USA and will meet, if time permits.

 Iris, Judi and Karl will work on the action plan, limiting it to 3-4 tasks.

 10.                 Other issues

 Gisela is ready to send the pamphlets to board members and secretariat.
